INTERIOR DESIGNING PRINCIPLES

Here we are exploring the interior design principles. An interior designer has to be well versed with the seven principles to arrange the seven elements, so that a good composition is achieved. These seven interior design principles can assist you on the correct path for developing our own stunning interior design.


BALANCE

Balance in interior design refers to the proper distribution of object in room to create a visual balance or visual weight with a composition. The balance is created when there is equilibrium of elements that need each other and together they create unity. The lack of balance visually makes tension and disturbs the harmony of composition.

RHYTHM
Rhythm is the visual flow of eye makes smooth flow across the room. The design principles suggest that connected movement between different parts of design by using colors, line, forms, also referred to as continuity. Rhythm is a visual flow and creates a sense of movement

EMPHASIS
Principles of interior design that says that an important one is emphasis, which is central piece of art or furniture, must play the role of attention to grabber of a particular living space. Elements like color, pattern and texture must be used to emphasize a particular space.

CONTRAST
It is the difference in the color or luminance of objects that differentiates them from one another. In interior design, the contrast can be achieved by three things namely space, form and color. Contrast can also be achieved by combining two or more forms like adding furniture in corner areas, use pillows or prints of two opposite colors like black and white to achieve contrast and make an object distinguishable.

SCALE AND PROPORTION

The principles of scale and proportion ensure that properties placed in a space look like they belong to each other and makes it a great attraction. For an example, placing pillows in sofas, placing different sized flower vase on corner etc. Under stuffed pillows would make a big sofa look empty and under accessorized, thus disrupting the harmony and proportion that is supposed to exist.

UNITY

Unity achieved when all of the different elements in a design work together to create a unified whole. The designers use unity to make elements in a composition appear to belong together. A good understanding of Alignment of objects, Similarity of color/pattern/texture, Proximity of objects, Repetition of elements based on similarity, Continuation of interior design elements is a few ways to achieve Unity.

DETAILS

Every detail adds a little bit of life to the overall interior design, be it the small embroideries on a pillow cover or the color within those embroidery patterns. They give a special attraction to our eyes. Once you are sure that you have achieved all of the above mentioned principles, it’s time for details to take over and beautify the place further.
