Fashion Photography Tips

Image
In the fashion industry, photographers not just shoot photos but also take care of other things like selecting an appropriate DSLR camera, finding an opposite angle, looking after the background decoration and even guiding the models so they stand, sit or lie in the perfect pose. Fashion photography, henceforth, is not everyone’s cup of tea. If you want to shine in this industry but lack the relevant experience, here are a few tips for you to try before going into the professional fashion photography. Develop the Concept Fashion photography is not just about taking random photo of models posing. You should have a concept or theme before you start. You need to spend time to develop a concept that would show creativity and uniqueness. Development of such concepts takes time. You should be open to ideas and suggestions; group meetings and resulting interactions may help generate new ideas. The concept should be thought-provoking, but not something that viewers would find u...

Interior Decoration Tricks to Design Room

Image
Whether you’ve just moved or are looking for a quick, little home pick-me-up, or perhaps something more significant, there are some well-known interior design tricks that designers employ that you too can easily do with minimal effort and cost.  Sometimes the smallest things make the greatest impact. Rearrange the bookshelves Organize 60 percent of books vertically and 40 percent horizontally on the shelves. This creates balance yet spontaneity (and shows off the back of the bookshelf if it’s lined with a decorative fabric). Stack horizontal books lower than vertical ones: If the vertical books are 12 inches tall, place three to four books horizontally up to four inches high. Add green plants to soften the bookshelf, but avoid flowers, which can look cluttered and distracting. Place a rug based on its size The size of the rug—say, for under the coffee table—will dictate how you arrange furniture around it. With an eight-by-ten-foot rug, situate the sofa and any ch...

Architectural Tricks to Enhance an Open-Plan Space

Image
People are increasingly excited by the lifestyle possibilities offered by open-plan living, but sometimes are frightened off by the idea of rattling around in a big, soulless space. To avoid having an open-plan space that looks dull and flat, borrow ideas from the best designs and incorporate interior devices that define different zones. This means playing with the separation between areas, changes in floor level, finishes, islands, furniture groupings, light and so on. These deliberate layers can change the perception of space as well as create a more interesting room to be in. Define your zones People often think they must have either separate rooms or an open plan. The reality is not so black and white, as the relationship between different zones can be manipulated by varying degrees, to emphasize their separation or integration. Changes in floor level, floor finish, ceiling condition, furniture arrangement and many other devices can all contribute to this fine-tuning. Cr...

What's the difference between art and design?

Image
What's the difference between art and design? This is a rudimentary question that often gets overlooked by those who are familiar with the two occupations and their distinctions.  So let's shed some light on the profession of design and how it differs from art. Here are the six main distinctions I'd make between the two disciplines. The end product Artists and designers both create visual products, to put it simply. Artists however, create eye candy to be consumed by the end user. The actual painting or illustration is created with intention to be the final result of the artist's vision. Whether this comes to the market as a book illustration, a canvas for a gallery, a framed work to be hung in a house, or a mural, the artwork is the final product of consumption. Designers create beautiful images as a form of communication and are one small step within a production pipeline. A designer will use renderings, sketches, models and other means to communicate th...

How Photography Skills Can Improve Your Graphic Design

Image
For some, making the connection between photography and graphic design is pretty straightforward. Others who don’t consider themselves photographers may not see the immediate benefit of investing the time to learn one more thing. However, learning even the basics of photography can give a graphic designer many advantages and help them stand out in a saturated market. Not by padding their resumes, but because they can create things that feel more unique. Let’s consider some of the way in which learning photography skills can help you as a designer. As the saying goes, ‘A picture is worth thousand words.’ As a visual communicator, photography is essential to the graphic designer in diverse ways, since images can mean a lot in communication as far as aesthetics are concerned. Photography is also an important part of branding, hence the connection with graphic design. Graphic designers manipulate photos to communicate an idea. Better Composition and Visual Balance The r...

Relationship Between Fashion Design and Interior Design

Image
As interior designers, one of the most important aspects of staying ahead of developing trends is to stay current with what’s going on in the world of fashion design. Most people know, or at least won’t find it hard to believe, that the leap from fashion trends to interior trends isn’t very far. Perhaps before the good old days of digital media, the leap was a bit further from what we can fathom today; but with the inside scoop so readily available, it’s no wonder why fashionable forms of expression are seeping into the world of interior design. In old days people had to wait for the trickle down of high fashion to easily accessible mediums like magazines and TV to know about the latest trends in Fashion. Now, however, we only have to Google a designer’s name to see his or her latest and greatest trend-setting runway collection. So what does this have to do with interiordesign? The answer is that the relationship between the two industries has never been more intertwined than...

How to Improve Drawing Skills

Image
Sketches are an important part of the design and development process. Sketches help to convey ideas, demonstrate functionality, visualize user flow, and illustrate anything that requires human interaction. Sketching ideas are the first steps in the design process and something every designer should do. Sketching is not just limited to designers, it occurs in many careers that require something to get built. The beauty of sketching is that you are not required to be an artist to produce them. Sketching is only to help explore and explain design concepts. Sketches can be easily created using pen and paper or a whiteboard. Using something permanent like a pen or marker is best. The idea is to keep your sketches fast, rough and dirty. This helps you worry less on design aesthetics and focus more on rapid formulation of ideas. So without drawing skill it’s not possible to survive in art and design industry. So we are sharing a few tips which will help you improve your drawing skill...

Basic Principles of Design to Help You Create Awesome Graphics

Image
In the visualage of the Internet it’s relatively easy to create your own graphic designs, but they don’t have to look homemade. Whether you’re designing a logo, an event announcement, a social network banner, a letterhead, or an email newsletter; you absolutely need to know basic principles of graphic design. Graphic designer and bestselling author Robin Williams explains these principles in her classic book, The Non-Designer’s Design Book. Today we will be providing an overview of these principles using a few contemporary examples. Proximity Proximity means grouping elements together so that you guide the viewer/reader to different parts of the message.   Though at first the elements may appear scattered, their proximity adds unity and continuity to the page. Even if you intend on sticking to templates, it still helps to know design principles for the purposes of customizing an existing design. Alignment Another important design principle is aligning elemen...

Importance of Colour in Fashion

Image
‘If fashion were a song, colour would be the beat.’ – Fran Keenan, Saks Colour is the first thing other people notice about us, and its impact is immediate and long-lasting. Our fashion colour choices say a lot about the image we are trying to portray and how we feel about ourselves. Everyone expresses themselves through colour. From the moment we pick out our clothes in the morning, to the shade of lipstick or scarf we put on, to the time we put on our pajamas at night, colour factors into how we convey emotion, identity, and meaning. So if colour is so fundamental, it only makes sense for brands to adopt a colour strategy that conveys their core values to consumers in a single glance. Unfortunately, colour is also one of the most fluid and frustratingly subjective things to quantify. Psychoanalysist and Sigmund Freud collaborator Carl Jung famously said, “Colour is the mother tongue of the subconscious.” So if the effects of colour are so difficult to codify, how can bra...

HOW DO WE GO ABOUT CHOOSING A LENS FOR OUR NEEDS?

Image
Figuring out which lenses will suit our specific needs is not that simple. There are hundreds of lenses presently available across the major lens makers. Thus how do we go about choosing a lens for our needs?Selecting a lens is totally different game to selecting a camera, and it’s complicated by the fact that two lenses often appear the same on paper however vary in price considerably. There are several abbreviations and specifications we need to know, and different manufacturers use utterly different abbreviations for exactly the same properties. The  process of  narrowing  down  the selection to a handful of options is stressful. APERTURE Most apertures are stated on all lenses. Aperture is provided as an aperture number, such as f/2.8.Higher the aperture number, the cheaper is the lens. It tells us how much light the lens can get through to the sensor at its best. Much light means we can keep shooting in darker conditions without the image...

Furniture & Interior Design

Image
Furniture matters to interiordesigners like books to librarians. It's important because interior design is concerned with the design of spaces and what makes the space is furniture. In this article, we'll discuss the various aspects of this 'making'. Function and Furniture Interior designers use existing furniture or new ones in types of ready-made, custom-designed, or built-in. Every furniture is made with user needs and function in mind. Function determines what a furniture should do like sleeping (beds), eating (tables), or seating (chairs). Function determines what a space should do, too. Analyzing how a space will be used and what activities will take place at that space marks the programming phase of interior design where furniture is involved. Function determines which furniture and furnishings (appliances, fittings, and accessories) are necessary for the usage of space, too. Space Planning & Furniture Furniture and functionality work togeth...
